Friends of Pastorius Park Launches the Paul W. Meyer Northeast Woods Restoration Project

On May 14, 2026, Friends of Pastorius Park (FoPP) welcomed more than 125 neighbors, supporters, elected officials, partner organizations, and volunteers to Pastorius Park to launch the Paul W. Meyer Northeast Woods Restoration Project — a major ecological restoration initiative dedicated to the memory and legacy of renowned horticulturist and community steward Paul Meyer. The event celebrated both the beginning of implementation work in the approximately two-acre Northeast Woods and the remarkable community support that brought the project fully within reach.

Friends of Pastorius Park Awarded $170,042 PA DEP Growing Greener Grant for Paul W. Meyer Northeast Woods Restoration Project

Friends of Pastorius Park (FoPP) has been awarded $170,042 reimbursement grant through the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection’s highly competitive Growing Greener Grant program to support the Paul W. Meyer Northeast Woods Restoration Project in Pastorius Park, a historic green space serving the Chestnut Hill community. Pastorius Park Awarded Level 1 Arboretum Accreditation

Pastorius Park has been awarded a Level 1 Arboretum Accreditation by The ArbNet Arboretum Accreditation Program. This achievement was made possible by the efforts of Friends of Pastorius Park, marking a significant milestone in our commitment to environmental stewardship and preservation at Pastorius Park. The Park is also now recognized as an accredited arboretum in the Morton Register of Arboreta, a database of the world’s arboreta and gardens dedicated to woody plants.

Remembering Paul W. Meyer

Friends of Pastorius Park is saddened to share the loss of dear friend and revered Pastorius Park restoration advisor, Paul Meyer. This is a tragic and huge loss for not only FoPP, but the horticultural community across the world. Paul played an invaluable role in the recent restoration and future preservation planning of Pastorius Park. We are so grateful for the lasting contributions he made in our community. To honor Paul and continue his farsighted work at Pastorius Park, FoPP is dedicating our next major project in the park’s Northeast Woods to Paul, as a memorial to his passion for restoring our park.
